Summary/Abstract: In addition to providing conveniences that make it faster and easier for researchers and volunteers to perform calculations and communicate with one another, modern technologies have introduced changes to research in the humanities and social sciences in terms of the ways content for publication is subsequently analysed. Network users volunteer to do themselves some of the work which, in other circumstances, researchers would have to perform during the analysis of their products. This text embeds this “third power” of modern technologies in the context of thinking about online practices and the work conditions for researchers in the digital humanists.
