Summary/Abstract: The article deals with short stories as the form of representation of selfidentification in M. Haretsky’s and L. Andreyev’s works. The specificity of selfidentification of characters is conditioned by multitude of identity types, formed characters, and genre diversity of the authors’ short stories.Main features of M. Haretsky’s oeuvre are its documentary orientation, presence of the narrator, whose self-identification is close to the author’s one, concentration on national and social identity. Allegorical and expressive narration, moral and philosophical components of identity are characteristic features of L. Andreyev’s prose.
