Summary/Abstract: This article reports on the methods and solutions applied in several EU member states in relation to the linguistic integration of third country nationals. The first section evaluates the advantages of the linguistic integration for local communities and the immigrants themselves. In the next section the author reviews various policies towards immigrant adults and pupils adopted in selected EU countries. The article concludes with the research carried out on the linguistic integration of two groups of third country nationals in Poland.
