Victor Erofeyev’s views on the West

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the views of Victor Erofeyev, a Russian writer and columnist, on the West. The author of this paper makes an attempt to show Erofeyev’s views on Western Europe and the USA, focusing particularly on selected aspects of the Western reality (religion, political correctness, politics, capitalism, mentality) as well as the West’s approach to Russia. Erofeyev’s views are determined by his opinion on society and politics. The author of this paper shows the relationship between Erofeyev’s approach to the West and the Westernizers’ movement, a Russian intellectual movement of the 19th century. The author also demonstrates how Erofeyev’s views are part of the Westernizers’ tradition in Russia’s intellectual life.
