Summary/Abstract: Nenad Jelesijević reviews The Ristić Complex by Oliver Frljić (Bitef Teatar, Belgrade, premiere: 20.09.2015), stating that the project uses post-Yugoslav theater aesthetics in order to deconstruct and examine them. The director's strategies are read as a commentary on the social and political transformations that took place after the collapse of Yugoslavia, and also on the present-day situation of the Balkans, which are attempting to shield themselves from the influx of refugees from the Middle East with a mockery of liberal laws executed through violence. Jelesijević points out the use of pathos and kitsch as tools to analyze societal emotions and stresses the powerful impact of the scenes, which are built on strong images.
