Summary/Abstract: The year 2015 became the symbol of the deepest social and political turning pointwithin the FRG since the reunification. It was connected with the so far unprecedentedwave of refugees coming to the EU. The solution to the crisis has been andremains a major challenge for Angela Merkel, and it will determine the domesticand foreign policy she pursues in 2016. If she succeeds, she will have a guaranteeof a 4th consecutive term in office. If she is defeated, it will lead to violation of thesense of the social safety of the German middle class, an economic crisis, social divisionsand an increase in support for extreme parties. This will not only be the end ofthe coalition government in FRG, but will also lead to Merkel’s removal from office.
