Education of teachers of family life education – the Polish context

Summary/Abstract: In the last few years, the system of education of teachers of various subjectsin Poland has changed. This is strictly connected with social, politicaland educational transformations. The teacher education standards specifiedin the regulations and ordinances of the Minister of Science and Higher Educationare also significant in this context. On the basis of these standards,schools of higher education prepare their own curricula relating to the preparationof students for the teaching of a specific subject, including family lifeeducation, and predefine the results of education.The analyses undertaken in this work were aimed at showing similaritiesand differences in the system of education of teachers of family life educationin Polish schools of higher education. Standards of education and curriculaavailable, among others, in the form of ordinances, resolutions and plans areregarded as an elementary source of knowledge on that subject. When referringto curricular documents of education of teachers of family life education,the goals and contents of education, detailed in terms of knowledge, skills andsocial competencies, were stressed in the first place. In this context, the formsof planned classes were characterised. Separate attention was devoted to lectures,exercises and teaching internships. An attempt was made to prove thatthe education of teachers of family life education in faculties of theology inuniversities is justified.
