Summary/Abstract: According to the statement on the strength of weak ties, they play a key role in the circulation of information, they facilitate social cohesion and mobilization. Personal contacts are the most often used method of obtaining information on employment, yet these contacts are usually weak ties. In the article, the results of the research conducted on the nationwide representative sample of newly hired employees are presented. The aim of the article is to present the methods of getting a job with a particular focus on the use of personal contacts. According to the results in Poland, like in other countries, employment is most often acquired through the personal contacts. The weak ties are the ones used most often . The most important context of a tie formation which leads to a new employment is work. The ties created in local community or family are used less often . There are no sharp differences in income or job satisfaction depending on the method of getting a job. The unemployed use the individual strategies of job search more often and are excluded from social networks created in the context of work.
