Summary/Abstract: The idea of the cultural omnivore is increasingly popular. Research that embraces this idea suggests that upper-class individuals prefer an above-average diversity of cultural products, and that this diversity of tastes is a new marker of high status. Using the data from the 2013 Polish national survey, the current study replicates the studies carried out in Western societies with respect to the patterns of eating. By analyzing the preferences of tastes I aim (1) to establish whether omnivorism in eating is mostly displayed among representatives of highbrow culture, and (2) to examine to what extent it replaces hierarchical distinction between highbrow and lowbrow categories. The analysis confirms that omnivorism in eating in Poland exists and that it prevails among higher managers and specialists. It slightly displays among owners and members of lower middle class, and is relatively least represented among working class and farmers. Furthermore, although the cultural omnivorism is a new pattern of taste, it correlates strongly with the cultural division in a highbrow and lowbrow categories.
