Summary/Abstract: This article presents a selective historical evolution of the institution of arbitration, with particular emphasis on Polish tradition of arbitration. Discussed here ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary frames that institution. History by topic, is to help the reader understand the essence of the arbitration, not only as a legal instrument, but also as a social phenomenon, the accompanying culture of civilized man since the dawn of time. In the Polish context, are discussed indirectlyterminological and historical issues such as the institutions of medieval institution called ”jednacz” or PAG – a state of economic arbitration, from the time of the central guided economy in Poland.
