Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the functioning of NATO in 2015. Its pivotal topic is the internaldiscussions within the Alliance concerning its main tasks, and forms, waysand means of their execution; and the main geographical areas of interest and engagement,which were best manifested by the so-called eastern vs. southern NATOflank debate. In the first section, the author not only presents the main changes and characteristics of NATO’s approach to Russia and Ukraine in the context of theirconflict initiated in 2014, but also discusses the implementation of the key pointsof the Readiness Action Plan, issued at the 2014 Newport Summit, and the proposalsfor its further adaptation and improvement. The second part of the article concernsNATO expeditionary engagements, primarily the “Resolute Support” missionin Afghanistan. In the last section, NATO partnerships with third states are discussedand assessed, as well as the Alliance’s enlargement and the offer of membership issuedto Montenegro. The article is concluded with an overall assessment of NATO’sfunctioning in 2015 and some preliminary predictions concerning its developmentin 2016, until Warsaw summit of the Organization, planned for early July.
