Summary/Abstract: The paper reviews the naming models used for marjoram and oregano – species from the family Lamiaceae (mint family). The use of these two plants and their subtypes in everyday life, medicine and magical practices of the peoples of the Balkans and Europe is studied. The focus of analysis falls on naming models in language, more specifically on the motivating basis used in naming and utilized in borrowing from one language into another, including physical features, smell, location, and use in everyday life, as a medicine and in magical folklore.
