Summary/Abstract: In a process of our country's integration into NATO and European Union special importance is attached to foreign languages' knowledge and use. In this article I analyze one of the most relevant problems of foreign language teaching in primary school - the connections of native language and foreign language teaching and learning. Foreign language teaching in primary school should be related with native language learning skills that young learners already have, because it not only helps for young learners to know better their native language and to master foreign language, but also consolidates motivation of foreign language learning, what is the most important and successful teaching governing power. This fact is emphasized in main documents of education of Lithuania. Furthermore, all language-learning skills acąuired in Lithuanian lessons pupils can successfully use in English lessons, if they know Lithuanian rather well, because the level of Lithuanian knowledge influence the success of foreign language learning. In this article I analyze the ideas of bilingual education by N. Hawkes, K. Goodman, D. Holdaway, W. Littlewood, F. Smith, R. Cohen, M. Pfleger and others, trying them to adapt to Lithuanian practice. I also had a possibility to acąuaint with the program, called Preparing Refugees for Elementary Programs, made and published in the USA, so some ideas about bilingual education are revealed in this work. In this article I also compare Early English Teaching program with Primary Native Language Teaching program. After analysis their similarities and differences are established in graphical pictures.
