Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on two particular aspects of the metamorphoses of space in Europe over Nineteenth century: the nocturnal urban space under the influence of new lighting techniques, then the awareness of the beginning of globalization of cultural spaces. The example are from Théophile Gautier’s works where he attributes the cause for these changes to the development of communications.
