This is done with the belief that myths play an important role in the identity formation of the Roma and performs a formative function not only on the abstract mythical level but also in everyday real interactions among members of the community. As proof will be given new attempts to reformulate and present Romani mythology in a positive light by contemporary Romani intellectuals. This will be considered as a significant part of the contemporary Romani ethnogenesis, attempting to upgrade the status of the Roma as rightful citizens and change the existing negative macrosocial perceptions.
