Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the influence of a local dialect (i.e. spoken language) on the linguistic shape of papers submitted by the inhabitants of the Highlands of Ciężkowice-Rożnów to the Local Social Welfare Centre (GOPS) in Zakliczyn, in the Tarnów district, from 2006 to 2014. 248 texts have been analysed. Most of them were written by poorly educated people in a difficult financial situation, who only deal with farming – i.e. by the group of people whose knowledge of a local dialect is expected to be relatively good. Local dialect features, detected in only 10% of the papers, indicate the lack of sufficient language and communication skills that would make it possible for the authors to switch the code. The texts reflect local dialect phonetic features (especially vocalic ones), morphological features (especially those related to word-formation), as well as lexical units whose dialectal origin is not realized.
