THE RELIGIOUS MEANING SYSTEM AND THE MEANING IN LIFE AS PREDICTORS OF EUDAIMONISTIC WELL-BEING AMONG PEOPLE WITH CANCER

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article was to examine the predictive value of the religious meaning system and the meaning in life for eudaimonistic well-being among people with cancer. Previous research suggests that religiousness and the meaning in life may play a role in the appraisals regarding life satisfaction and contentment. 135 people (71 women and 64 men) took part in the current research, which aimed at determining the character and level of associations between the factors. The results demonstrated that the religious meaning system was positively associated with eudaimonistic well-being, with the sense dimension having stronger links than the orientation. Positive associations also occurred between meaning in life and well-being. The presence of meaning played a  more important role in eudaimonistic well-being than the search. The strongest links in the relations of the meaning in life and the well-being were found for personal meaning profile, which represents the existential nature of meaning in life.
