Summary/Abstract: Databases are important in the daily work of an academic staff. Presently, we cannot be more effective and efficient without the help of a database. Academic staff needs to effectively use their data wisely resulting from student course participation and attendance, class tests and examinations and program of study analysis to be able to deduct meaningful information from it. In this paper an ERR model is developed for an academic staff class and course management database. Creating such a database requires a very valid conceptual data model. A detailed analysis of the proposed database model was intensively carried out. The database analysis included requirements gathering and designing a high level data model. A conceptual data model is developed for the identification and analysis of course grades for academic staff in a faculty’s department of a university. An information gathering and conceptual database design approach is used. Each academic staff’s information requirements were analyzed and various entities identified, including their relationships and necessary attributes. The designed conceptual model can be included in a more complex university database model or can be used in developing a generic model for use by all academic staff in the faculty.
