Summary/Abstract: The research of urban-rural migratory flows for the Lower Silesian Voivodeship at the period 1995-2012 has shown a progressive process of suburbanization in the biggest and the most developed cities. This process has also been observed in postindustrial towns like Jelenia Góra and Bolesławiec. The article examines the scale and directions of inhabitants outflow; shows the development of residential areas in the neighbouring communities and assesses socio-economic and spatial situation of both towns. The authors formulated the hypothesis of suburbanization reasons near postindustrial centers. It has been confirmed that suburbanization appears as a result of numerous interconnected processes. The primary reason of suburbanization in the both towns was the fall of industrial sector and as a result − economic crisis.
