Summary/Abstract: In modern day; the topic of clusters is particularly significant due to the attribution of their positive impact upon the development of regions in which they operate. Yet to consider clusters as a stimulators of development; they ought to operate within their appropriate environments: socio-economic; institutional and political. The mandate for taking action to form and support economic development; including the formation of suitable environments for various economic activities; has been assigned to local governments. Therefore; this article considers aspects pertaining to regional and local politics when it comes to the forming of suitable environments. The first part of this article illustrates the role of local government in economic development. Based on the literature reviewed; the positive impact of clusters upon the local and regional economy has been demonstrated. These studies were compared with the results of studies conducted by enterprises located in the clusters of the Świętokrzyskie Province.
