Summary/Abstract: The question of the extension of the meanings of loanwords is analized in the paper. Many other languages produce great influence on the German language as well as on the Lithuanian in this multidimensional language speaking environment; however the English language influences the most. Loanwords spread mostly in such spheres of life which are concerned with the development of modern technologies, economics, politics, sports and culture. Loanwords are used to name new phenomena or notions in the reality. New borrowed words usually have special meanings; new meanings are often applied to them which origin is determined by the English language. The usage of loanwords is compared between the German and Lithuanian languages. The major focus of the paper is to determine whether the extended meanings of the loanword is identical in both languages, whether the new meaning is present in both vocabularies; in which particular sphere of life the new meaning is used, and what language produced an influence on the meaning of the word.
