Summary/Abstract: The approaches to the problem of political self-investigation of the ar-tistic intelligentsia, offered by publicists and thinkers in the beginning of the XX century, representing the various directions of public thought, are consi¬dered. For all authors the motives of personal responsibility of the artist for processes occurring in society, reflections on specific public role in art, on the extent of interference between culture and politics are prevailing
