Summary/Abstract: Peace is not an obvious thing in a modern world. It is permanently at risk from conflict, terrorism and constant breaking of the basic human rights. Many of those in power, diplomats and leaders are heard quoting, with increasing frequency, the Latin proverb: Si vis pacem, para bellum (If you want peace, prepare for war). These words bring disquiet to many and stimulate reflection on seeking non-military solutions. Teaching of John Paul II helps in this search for possible solutions. Praying for peace is the first step on the road to accept and achieve peace. Prayer helps people contribute to the creation of a new vision of peace, based on acting together and brotherly unity of human beings.
