STUDENT PARTICIPATION FOR BLENDED LEARNING ACTIVITIES – A CASE STUDY

Summary/Abstract: The student participation is a must for the success of any learning activity. With the introduction of virtual learning environments academia believed the acceptance for the new approach. However, due to the various cultural, social, and individual perception factors, the blended learning concept emerged as a remedial approach, to harness the success attributes of the both traditional and virtual approaches. After identifying the importance of blended e-Learning, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, ventured on a such project; LearnOrg-MOODLE. The holistic environment of this system includes both Learning Management and Content Management systems which have been undergone several enhancements. However, still there is a significant concern among the academics about the student participation for learning activities in the new environment. This paper will discuss issues and remedial actions for improving student participation for blended learning activities.
