Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to give an answer to the main question: what kind of research methods and techniques are mostly used in sociological researches on divorce? Pros and cons of secondary vs. primary data sets used in the research are discussed. The source basis was constituted by a selection of sociological articles published in renowned American academic journals in 1980-2010. In most analyzed articles information on methods and techniques used was relatively poor in comparison in other (e.g. data analysis, sample selection, measurement tools, etc.). In research based on secondary data analysis lack of basic information on data source is common. Sociological research on divorce is mostly based on standardized tools – in-depth interviews are conducted very rarely.
