Summary/Abstract: In this article you will find a segment taken from the biogtaphy of an openly declared and militant anticommunist. The author uses the characters' memories, rebuilding the events the latter experienced. Horaţiu Ciortin distinguished himself as an opinion leader ever since he had been a student, leading the protests against war and its political effects (see the Vienna Dictate). Being a member in the youth organization of the National Peasants Party, Ciortin was active there during the years that followed the war. The political situation in Romania that was now occupied by the Red Army's troops, determined him to organize an armed resistance group in the Apuseni Mountains, in Beiuş area. He also participated in the electoral campaign for parliamentary elections in November 1946. Being also a leader of the Students Center "Petru Maior" he definitely arose the communist authorities' attention, which led him to being surveyed and then arrested. After the investigation and the trial he was convicted to imprisonment. As many other members of the democratic political organizations in Romania he experienced the prison's world, finally being taken to do forced labor at the Channel. After he was finally released he succeeded to get hired as a physician, changing his life and status completely.
