Summary/Abstract: The ecology plays an important part in the social teaching of the Catholic Church and it is based on the philosophical and theological foundation. It manifests in the kind of resolving of the ecological problems in the concrete activity of the Church that leads to the salvation of the human life’s space. Pope Francis in his encyclical letter Laudato si’ has payed attention to the limitations of the exclusive understanding of the economic development. This document enriched the social teaching of the Catholic Church in the ecological and social area. Francis remarks: „(…) that this Encyclical Letter, which is now added to the body of the Church’s social teaching, can help us to acknowledge the appeal, immensity and urgency of the challenge we face” (LS 15). The ecological challenges should stimulate the contemporary societies to the constructive activities for the protection of the natural environment. We can only hope, that the fulfillment of this goal will come about though the climate meeting in Paris and the resolutions listed in its final protocol from the December 12th 2015.
