Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the genesis of the post-Yugoslavian ethno-nationalism from the Yugoslavian model of 'socialism of self-management". Under the conditions of this model, which was - unlike the Soviet one - non-etatistic and with a clear anti-institutional orientation, the understanding of society as a big family, as an organic community was formed. This understanding, which was explicitly developed within the paradigm of the yugo-marxism, is the main source of growing and spread of ethno-centric attitudes after the breaking down of the socialist ideology. It was conserved by providing it with ethno-nationalistic semantics. The understanding of the nation as a homogeneous organic collective is maintained by producing a stylized village romantic, construction of historical myths, social biologism, and deep mistrust toward liberal-individualistic principles.
