Summary/Abstract: By observing one of the main features of the Arabic qasida, i.e, that it represents a journey and a poem with a purpose, one may examine the possible ways and causes for the adaptation of this type of poem for mystical-religious purposs. Within that context, this paper considers certain periods of transformation of the Arabic qaisda, ranging form profane panegyrics to striking odes of love directed towards the Prophet Muhammad, p.b.u.h. The paper also indicates some of the most highly esteemed Arabic mystic-religious poets of the post-classical period. Using the example of Tahmis by Abdullah Salahuddin Uššaki Bošnjak in relation to al-Busiri’s poem Qaṣīda al-Burda, the paper shows how the artist used the traditional Arabic quasida successfully in order to present his own spiritual journey to the higher levels of transcendence. Arabic qasida – an imaginary journey and a poet’s journal of spirit.
