Summary/Abstract: Christian faith, the centre of which is Jesus Christ, must imply the reality of the Church which makes the faith possible and real at all times. Christ and the Church form an inseparable whole to which each and every Christian is invited. Sacramental celebrations are another way to become one with Christ and the Church, both existentially and ontically. This kind of understanding and, consequently, Christian theology is taught by Joseph Ratzinger / Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope highlights the fact that Christian faith is always the faith of the Church. He quotes Saint Paul in this context: “it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives within me.” (Gal 2,20). The Apostle expresses his subjective (personal experience) and objective (baptism) dimension of conversion. Conversion is in fact the change of the subject from “I” into “Christ”. This change is the essence of the redeeming power of God: the same way as a ram became the sacrifice instead of Isaac on Mount Moriah, Jesus Christ becomes “the change”. Theologically speaking, faith as agreement (obedience) to the change (to Him) which comes and which is given, becomes the prerequisite and a new beginning of theological thinking. A clear example of the trust in God (receiving the gift, identifying with God) is obedience to the Church that makes “the change” credible, becomes the basis of theological hermeneutics, and the guarantee of discovering and spreading the truth
