Summary/Abstract: In accordance to the Second Sacred Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, holy matrimony should be enriched in such a way as to show clearly God’s grace in the sacrament and highlight the marital responsibilities of married couples. One of the aspects of enriching the wedding liturgy is putting stress on the level of pneumatology, both in singing the hymn to the Holy Spirit and in the epiclesis which is a part of the prayer for blessing. In the light of the hymn, marriage is realized with the presence of the Holy Spirit, a divine-human act, which forms a long-lasting sacramental relation between two Christians. The prayer for the blessing of a married couple sets the seal on marriage as the couple is entrusted to love which springs from the Holy Trinity. The Church believes that this seal is especially realized by the Holy Spirit that unites married couples in the love of the Father and the Son, and kindles and changes the human love making it similar to the trinitarian love. Thanks to the Holy Spirit, the love between husband and wife becomes a reflection of the love between Christ and the Church.
