Summary/Abstract: This article engages with theories about the art of living and the good life, especially Schmid’s concept “Lebenskunst”, as well as with relevant findings from positive psychology, taking an educational point of view. An argument is made that it is important for education to refocus on the lives and living circumstances of our students and that Schmid’s Lebenskunst can make a contribution to this end. It is argued that a shift of educational focus in theory and practice is necessary, away from being mainly driven by economic concerns to a more comprehensive understanding of education and Bildung that includes not only social and economic considerations, but also other important aspects of human life and well-being.
