Summary/Abstract: Foreign language teaching and learning involves not only disciplines such as methodology and linguistics but also psychology, logic, sociology etc. The numerous interrelationships among the forms, types and processes implied in the process of foreign language learning emphasize interferences that can only be tackled in an interdisciplinary manner. Foreign language teaching and learning at university level is increasingly focusing on learner autonomy. The teacher’s role is to help students become more responsible for their own successful learning through acquiring key competences and avoiding mere storage of information. Autonomous students are analytical, responsible and aware of the significance of the learning process. They are also capable of self- assessment and management of their own learning.
