Summary/Abstract: Lean management is becoming more and more popular in business, the Lean approach begins to be applied also in service companies. The paper employs theoretical-conceptual approach and it is focused on the central concept in Lean − value stream. In Lean it is aimed to achieve a smooth, high producticve flow. This paper aims to identify the main differences necessary in service value stream with reference to the principles described basing on manufacturing experinces. The paper presents a number of issues which must be addressed in the value stream whilst applying Lean in services. There are five observations concerning the service value stream: specific meaning of the customer value, personal customer commitment to the value stream, the waste specific to services, the necessity of redefinition of standardization and the importance of service corporate culture in Lean. The challenges for practical Lean implementation as well as for scientific research are specified.
