Barriers to implementation of knowledge management processes in high technology companies

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the problem of barriers to the implementation of knowledge management processes. On the basis of the survey conducted on a random sample of 100 medium and large-sized high-techs it was found that of all types of barriers related to people; team; structure; culture; methods of management; technology and human resources management; those associated with management methods were most frequent and principal to hampering the implementation of knowledge management processes. In addition; it was noted that within this category of barriers the entities surveyed were more likely to cope with time pressures. Respondents from high-tech companies also confirm taking various initiatives to overcome barriers. These measures refer; inter alia; to sending employees to professional training; enabling staff to share ideas through direct contacts with management; using motivational methods and tools and many others.
