Summary/Abstract: The text analyses the relationship between the female subject and the actual space ofthe city – Szczecin and Wałbrzych – in selected literary works: Bambino Inga Iwasiówand Piaskowa Góra by Joanna Bator. The analysis employs a number of research perspectives.In the first one, the city is recognised as a product of culture that generatesspecific practices of subjects associated with it. In the second one, it is recognisedas a social space, taking into account the gender of subjects inhabiting it – womenserving defined roles in the urban space. The third perspective activates the contextof historical reality, making it possible to compare the discussed cities as productsof literary fiction with their real counterparts. The text concludes with an attempt toanalyse the experiences shaping the identity of the heroines of these novels.
