“The War Is Over"

Summary/Abstract: Tomasz Fryzeł writes of Peter Brook's Battlefield (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, premiere: 15.09.2015). The director returns to Mahabharata – a Hindu epic poem written over two thousand years ago – to focus on the events that followed the fratricidal war that forms the center of the work, and to speak of people who survived the cataclysm and who are trying to reconcile themselves to the deaths of their loved ones. The reviewer indicates the timeliness of the performance: with reference to Brook's commentary, he writes that the titular battlefield might be associated with contemporary Syria and scenes of recent terrorist attacks.
