Summary/Abstract: Paweł Schreiber reviews Anna Smolar's Dybbuk (Polski Theater in Bydgoszcz, premiere: 4.12.2015). First he situates S. Ansky's text in the contemporary framework of the play. He notes that the contemporary touches are not entirely effective. He does, however, laud the director for her skillful use of the “theater in the theater” motif (Dybbuk performed by middle-school students) and for showing the students' and teachers' complex responses to Jewish culture, which is shown as incomprehensible and remote.
