Coşeriu’s survey on the linguistic change, with reference to DA and DLR

Summary/Abstract: In the present study I aim to compare Sextil Puşcariu’s and Eugeniu Coşeriu’s approaches to semantic change. Similarities will be discussed, as well as a theoretical point on which the two scholars (seem to) differ. I shall also refer to the two main historical dictionaries of the Romanian language, Dicţionarul Academiei (DA, coordinated by S. Puşcariu) and Dicţionarul limbii române (DLR, the continuation of DA after 1965), and indicate the manner in which each of them documents and illustrates semantic change.
