Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the structure of the system of local cases in Old Lithuanian as reflected in Chylinski’s translation of the New Testament. It is argued that the traditional descriptions should be revised. Inessive and adessive are not opposed in terms of case semantics, their distribution being determined by the categorial features of the noun phrase (animacy and individuation). The subsystem of lative cases shows no opposition between an internal and an external case either: only the illative is marked in this respect whereas the allative is a general lative case.
