Summary/Abstract: The content of the article was based on a thesis about the evolutionary nature of contemporary retail market area [Dzieciuchowicz 2012; Kaczmarek 2010]. The main purpose is to examine the process in selected examples of towns. Three cities with 8−13 thousand inhabitants were analyzed: Oborniki Śląskie, Środa Śląska and Trzebnica. The method was focused on functional and spatial points. Much of the content is oriented on the planning aspects and the urban policy management. The results have shown the image of modern changes: the marketplace disappearances for new creations named closed bazaar or, more often, squares of discounters and supermarkets.
