Summary/Abstract: This article deals with problems of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system selection as an initial phase of that system’s implementation. As ERP selection is a very complex process, to facilitate its analysis, the problem is divided into different parts identifying ERP selection criteria. Generally the criteria are classified on the basis of scientists’ research interests but in the majority of cases two main groups of ERP selection criteria are distinguished—software-related and implementation-related ERP selection criteria. Within the scope of this article combining theoretical and practical approaches, the most significant implementation-related ERP system selection criteria were identified and reviewed, analyzing and interpreting definitions and differences among them. The overview was completed by practical/statistical findings made by different consultancies. The importance of all-round knowledge for successful ERP implementation is underlined, i.e.: ERP software functionality, project and change management, business process, trainings organization etc. All these areas are closely connected to the subject of this article— implementation-related ERP selection factors: organisational fit, end-user readiness, training, system support quality and the overall ERP implementation ease that is predefined by the complexity of business environment as well as the level of business transformation conditioned by technological changes. The efficiency of ERP user training depends not only on user readiness and overall level of IT knowledge, but also on the ability of ERP consultants to combine different methods of training material diffusion. Combining creative methods and holistic approach as well as clarifying the advantage of a new system not only on the level of organization, but for the individual user as well, ERP trainings could be seen as a tool for deeper business environment knowledge The use of efficient ERP implementation methodology could dramatically decrease ERP implementation costs in all project phases, shortening overall project duration and raising work efficiency. On the basis of a systematised theoretical and practical material, it has been determined that in order to create a decision support system which would automate ERP selection process, the quantitative analysis of ERP selection criteria needs to be done.
