Castle reconstructions in Transylvania

Summary/Abstract: The presentation discusses the attempts made over the past half century. The castle of Fogaras/Făgăraş was renovated at the socialist state’s initiative, and attempts at renovation were made in Keresd/Criş, Gyergyószárhegy/Lăzarea and Bonchida/Bonţida too. The author enumerates the reasons for the failure of these attempts, and the degrees to which they have failed. The success story – although on a much smaller scale – in Marosillye/Ilia from the period after 1990 is also presented.
