Summary/Abstract: The subject of the analysis are methodological restrictions of variable measurements defined in theoretical terms (on a high level of abstraction), such as the level of socio-economic development. It defends the thesis relating to the fact, that even if all components of the measurement (empirical indicators taking part in creation of measurement scale of such concept) share the character of measurement on at least interval scales, still the synthetic measurement scale shows a weaker, ordinal character. The sentences using results of such measurement have a character of historical and spatial relativization. The article also talks about a relation between the simplicity (formal elegance) of measurement algorithm and spatial aggregation of analyzed units. This relation leads to the point where the smaller spatial units, the more complex algorithm is, which is shown as a result of multiply possible ways leading to the realization of the same goal (for example the progress in reached level of development).
