Summary/Abstract: The paper first explores the peculiar symbiosis between utopia and dystopia in José Sarmago’s novel Blindness, by tracing a parallel between the group in the novel and the brigata in Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron; and second, it analyzes the way this atypical world is translated on the big screen by Fernando Meirelles, using a number of different cinematography techniques.
