Summary/Abstract: Western, traditional, model of innovation (the so called “more for more”) leads to unsustainable development. The imbalance occurs in each of the three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. The authors of this article put the thesis that the traditional model of innovation is becoming less and less pro-development, both in the context of the economic growth and more broadly in the context of sustainable development. At the same time, according to the authors, currently created in developing countries, innovation models may prove to be an interesting substitute for the traditional approach to innovation. The implementation of this model in developed economies could become an effective tool to support sustainable development. In the article the authors attempt to assess whether models of innovation, coming from developing countries, can replace the traditional Western model of innovation and whether such models can become an instrument for the implementation of sustainable development.
