Customs cooperation in the area of security and protection of the EU market

Summary/Abstract: The freedom of trade fosters the abuse in the area of customs and taxes, and in relation to customs services, it necessitates higher expectations in terms of security and market protection. Effective and efficient performance of tasks by the EU customs in this area would not be possible without mutual cooperation. The range of actions taken by customs administrations of the member states within the framework of collaboration is very wide. These are both general as well as specific actions aimed at particular customs offences. The main purpose of the paper is to present existing methods and forms of collaboration of customs services under the current applicable regulations in the area of security and market protection with particular consideration of the institutional aspect of customs cooperation.
