Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present the possibilities of a tourist region promotion by implementing an instrument taking the form of event marketing. The initial, theoretical part of the article presents the problems of sport oriented tourism, its similarities to sport and qualified tourism. The author also discusses the essence and the characteristics of activities related to event marketing. Later in the article the author presents the development of mass racing events in Poland in recent years. The final part of the article offers the examples of mass racing events organization in Poland held in regions where tourist function is the dominating one. The races held in the region of the Karkonosze Mountains (Summer Piasts’ Race and Jelenia Góra Half Marathon) as well as the races organized in the area of Małopolska National Parks, the so-called Pearl of Małopolska) were selected as the examples of the discussed events.
