Summary/Abstract: Mokslinėje literatūroje epidemiologinių tyrimų ir sveikatos sociologijos teorijų integracijos trūkumas laikomas viena pagrindinių problemų sveikatos skirtumų tyrimuose.Šiame straipsnyje vyrų mirtingumo diferenciacija nagrinėjama remiantis P. Bourdieu socialinės praktikos teorija, pasitelkiant sveikatos lauko ir kultūrinio kapitalo koncepcijas. Empirinio tyrimo tikslas – įvertinti darbingo amžiaus vyrų mirtingumo diferenciaciją pagal išsilavinimą Lietuvoje. Mokslinis tyrimas finansuojamas Europos socialinio fondo lėšomis pagal visuotinės dotacijos priemonę (sutarties Nr. VP1–3.1–ŠMM–07–K–02–067). This article points to the need of social theory in studies of health inequalities. We suggest that sociological concepts could be very useful in explaining health inequalities. This article presents research on educational differences in mortality among workingage men in Lithuania. A Bourdieu-based approach to health inequality and the cultural capital concept to study educational mortality differentials among men are used in the article. This research is based on the census-linked mortality dataset based on the linkage between all records from the 2011 Population Census of Lithuania and death records from the Lithuanian Causes of Death Register between the 1st of March 43 2011 and 31st of December 2013. Relative educational mortality differentials were assessed by means of Poisson regression mortality rate ratios. Results of the study ighlight a striking magnitude of relative mortality differences by education: all-cause mortality risk in lower-educated working-age males groups is about five times higher than in the group of those with higher education. This article confirms the value of approach based on Bourdieu social practice theory and indicates the need to expand the health field researches with wider analysis of historical and economical context. This research is funded by the European Social Fund under the Global Grant measure (Project no. VP1-3.1-ŠMM-07-K-02-067).
