Summary/Abstract: The aim of our study is to show how the spatial references present in Total khéops by Jean-Claude Izzo are translated into Polish. The city of Marseille is presented in the text not only as a background, it becomes the main character of the novel. The role played by the city being utterly important, it was interesting to study what is the image of Marseille in the translated text and how it got created. We analyzed three types of spatial references, by which we understand all elements of the text helping to create the portrait of the city: toponyms, cultural elements and dialect of Marseille.
